- Part A-I: Giacomo Pozzi1 (~1602-1672)
- Part A-II: Giovanni Pozzi2 (~1631-~1706)
- Parti A-III: Giovanna Maria Cristina (Pozzi) Cerini3 (1677- 1748)
- Part B-I: Giovanni "Zane" Pozzi2 (~1643-1706)
- Part B-II: Stefano Pozzi3 (1680-1719)

Giovanni POZZI1 (~1646-1695)
X1. Giovanni Pozzi was is not suspected to be of any immediate relationship to our two known Pozzi lines, but is addressed here as part of a closer to look to find connections between his family and that of his brother Doctor Giovanni Giacomo Pozzi. Giovanni was born about 1646, likely in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland, and married Giovanna Cerini by 1674. They had as many as seven children:

Giovanni was correlated the doctor's family through the doctor's known sister Caterina (Pozzi) Cerini when he was named as godfather to Caterina's second daughter Anna[Bap 1678B], and, five weeks later, named as godfather, along with Caterina as godmother, to Maria Margherita Bonetti. In this record both were identified as "children of Giacomo Pozzi.[Bap 1678B] He may also have been named as godfather to Pietro Antonio Bonetti along with sister Maria (Margherita) as godmother.[Bap 1672]
Giovanni and Giovanna chose the following godparents for their children:
- Caterina: Don Giovanni Angelo Franzoni of Cevio and Maria Cerini[Bap 1675];
- Perpetua: Giovanni Pietro Caporgno of Someo and Giovanna Cerini[Bap 1678C];
- Giacomo Tomaso: Father Pietro Giacomo Pozzi, Vicar of Giumaglio, and Maria Maddalena Pozzi[Bap 1680];
- Giovanna Angelica: Don Giovanni Pozzi of Coglio and Mrs. Domenica (Zanini) Tomasi of Maggia[Bap 1682];
- Battista: Don Martino Martinoni of Someo and Margherita Teresa Cerini of Giumaglio[Bap 1685];
- Cristiano: Don Antonio Martinelli of Maggia and Giovanna Maria Cerini, Giovanni's niece[Bap 1690]; and
- Pietro Stefano: Alonzo Parinoni of Someo and Maria Delnotaro of Coglio.[Bap 1694]
During the last week of May 1677, Giovanni Ambrogio Torriano, Bishop of Como, held mass confirmation ceremonies for parishes in the valley at Maggia, 4 kilometers downriver, and Someo, 2 kilometers upriver. Daughter Caterina was confirmed at the Church of Santi Placido ed Eustachio in Someo on May 31, at which time her godmother was named as Giovanna Cerini.[Con 1677B]
Giovanna in turn was named as godmother to as many as nine parishioners during the confirmations: (as " wife of Giovanni") Anna Maria Ianzi (Ianzini); Mrs. Giovanna (Bonetti) Cerini; Giovanna Gaspari; Mrs. Maria (Ianzi/Ianzini) Lesina; Lucrezia Pozzi; Maria Rusca (Giovanotti); Giovanna Rossetti; Mrs. Giovanna (Cerini) Pozzi; and (as "daughter of Giovanni Cerini and wife of Giovanni Pozzi") Mrs. Giovanna (Pozzi) Marchese2.[Con 1677A-B]
This household was the first of 11 Pozzi houesholds in the first parish census of 1692. It listed: Giovanni, age 45; Giovanna, age 39; Caterina, age 23; Perpetua, age 14; Giacomo Tomaso, age 11; Angelica, age 9; Giovanni Battista, age 6; and Cristiano, age 1.[Cen 1692]
Giovanni Pozzi died on November 5, 1695, at his home in Giumaglio, at the age of 50. He was buried in the cemetery of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.[Dth 1695]
Giovanna was left with six or seven children between the ages of 1 and 20 and continued on for another 16 years. In 1698, Giovanna was listed as age 45 with five children--all but eldest Caterina and young Cristiano, who apparently died in childhood.[Cen 1698] As the years went on, eldest son Giacomo Tomaso became head of the household and married, while Battista was noted as absent[Cen 1702-1709], perhaps attending seminary school. Battista was first noted in the priesthood in 1707 when named as a cleric and godfather.[Bap 1707]
Giovanna (Cerini) Pozzi died on December 16, 1711, at the family home in Giumaglio. She was recorded to be 60 years old, but may have been 58. Giovanna was buried the following day in the cemetery of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.[Dth 1711]

During the last week of May 1677, Giovanni Ambrogio Torriano, Bishop of Como, held mass confirmation ceremonies for parishes in the valley at Maggia, 4 kilometers downriver, and Someo, 2 kilometers upriver. Giacomo may have been confirmed on May 22 at the Church of San Maurizio in Maggia, at which time his sponsoring godfather was named as Dom. Antonio Marchetius (Marcacci?) of Locarno.[Con 1677A] Likely son Carlo Antonio, who was recorded after Giacomo and was identified as the "son of Giacomo," and daughter Maria Caterina, who was identified as the daughter of Doctor Giovanni Giacomo Pozzi and Maria Parinoni, were both confirmed on May 31 at the Church of Santi Placido ed Eustachio in Someo. Carlo Antonio's godfather was named as Dom. Pietro Zesna/Zena of Ascona and Maria Caterina's godmother as Giovanna Cerini.[Con 1677B] Doctor Pozzi was in turn named as godfather to five parishioners at both churches: Giovanni Cerini, Giovanni Mirenini, and Giovanni Antonio Pozzi (Jr.), all at Maggia[Con 1677A]; and Giovanni Agostino Pozzi and Giovanni Pietro Sartori2, both at Someo.[Con 1677B]
Don and Doctor Giovanni Giacomo Pozzi died on January 22, 1680, at this home in Giumaglio. He was only 32 years old. Giacomo was buried the following day in the cemetery of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.[Dth 1680]
Maria was left with a 1-year-old and 2-year old. Come the first parish census of 1692, she, age 42, was enumerated with her daughter and son, ages 15 and 14, and with a servant woman named Maria Muscio from Someo.[Cen 1692] By 1698, Caterina had left home and Giacomo Pietro married. In this year their servant was Giacomina Rosa Pozzi, age 28.[Cen 1698]
Maria (Parinoni) Pozzi died at her home in Giumaglio on Novemeber 29, 1701, and was buried the following day in the cemetery of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. She was recorded to be 50 years old[Dth 1701], but may have been as old as 52.
Son Giacomo Pietro went on to become a surgeon and built a chapel between Giumaglio and Someo in 1712 that bears his name.[Filippini 193]

Caterina (POZZI) CERINI (~1651-1686)
X3. Caterina Pozzi was born about 1651, likely in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. She was the sister of Doctor Giovanni Giacomo Pozzi. Caterina and her brother are not suspected to be of any immediate relationship to our two known Pozzi lines, but are addressed as part of a closer to look to find connections. Caterina married Giacomo Cerini by 1670 and had three daughters:
X31. | Giovanna Maria Cerini | (8 Sep 1674) | (11) Oct 1726 | (52) |

During the last week of May 1677, Giovanni Ambrogio Torriano, Bishop of Como, held mass confirmation ceremonies for parishes in the valley at Maggia, 4 kilometers downriver, and Someo, 2 kilometers upriver. Giacomo was confirmed at Church of San Maurizio in Maggia on May 22, at which time his sponsoring godfather was named as Giovanni Giacomo Pozzi.[Con 1677A] Caterina and daughter Giovanna Maria were confirmed a week later at the Church of Santi Placido ed Eustachio in Someo on May 31, at which time their sponsoring godmothers were named as Berta Pozzi and Giovanna Gaspari.[Con 1677B] Caterina in turn was named as godmother at both events. At Maggia she was simply identified as Caterina Pozzi and named as godmother for Anna Maria Marchese, Mrs. Giovanna (Mazzini) Pozzi, and Mrs. Giacomina (Sartori) Pozzi.[Con 1677A] At Someo she was identified as Giacomo's wife and named as godmother to Mrs. Maria (Mazzini) Romagno (and later as godmother to her son Giacomo Romagno (Jr.), as noted above), Giovanna Maria Mazzini, and Elena Stolfi.[Con 1677B]
Similarly, Carlo Ciceri, Bishop of Como, held confirmation ceremonies in June 1683 for parishes in the valley at Maggia, 4 kilometers downriver, and Someo, 2 kilometers upriver. Daughters Anna and Caterina were confirmed at the Church of San Maurizio in Maggia on June 19, at which time their godmothers were named as Domenica De Zanaci of Maggia and Giovanna Cerini. Margherita (POZZI) RIGHETTI (->1674)
X4. Maria Margherita Pozzi was likely born in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. She is not suspected to be of any immediate relationship to our two known Pozzi lines, but is addressed here as part of a closer to look to find connections. Margherita married Giacomo Pietro Righetti, son of Giovanni Giacomo of Someo, 2 kilometers upriver, at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta on May 20, 1674. Witnesses to their union were Giovanni Giacomo Giumini of Giumaglio and Giovanni Ludovico Bellio of Lucerne.[Mar 1674]
Prior to her marriage, Margherita was named as godmother to four parish children: Maria Teresia Gaspari (as "Maria")[Bap 1670]; as godmother an likely namesake to Margherita Bonetti[Bap 1672A]; Pietro Antonio Bonetti, with Giovanni Pozzi as godfather (perhaps "Maria's" brother)[Bap 1672B]; and, as "Maria" and along with her brother Dr. Giovanni Giacomo Pozzi as godfather, Innocenzo Mariano Gaspari.[Bap 1672C]
After Margherita and Giacomo's wedding, they no longer appear in parish records in Giumaglio, suggesting that she moved to Someo.
Giacomo Pietro Righetti died on August 24, 1724, at his home in Someo. He was "about 74 years" old and was buried the following day in the cemetery in Someo.

Don Giovanni Francesco POZZI (I)• (1688-1747)
Z1. Don Giovanni Francesco Pozzi (I)• was born on August 12 or 13, 1688, and baptized on the 13th in Coglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. His godparents were named as Don Notaio Giovanni Francesco Franzoni of Cevio and Donna Anna Caterina Franzoni, wife of Don Knight Giovanni Franzoni of Cevio.[Bap 1688] Francesco married three times. He married Domenica Tomasini•, daughter of Pietro• of Lodano, in 1709 and had ten children. After Domenica's death, Francesco married Giovanna Maria Tomasini, daughter of Giacomo of Menzonio, Val Lavizzara, in 1742, and had one more son. And lastly, he married Giovanna Maria Pozzi of Giumaglio, the widow of Giovanni Maria Delnotaro, but Francesco died soon after. All together Francesco fathered 11 children:

Francesco's father died in 1696 when Franceso was about 7 or 8 years old. In 1701, age 12, he was first recorded as a godfather to Giovanni Antonio Delnotaro (Jr.).[Bap 1701] Come 1709, after his marriage, parish records began addressing him as "Don"[Bap 1709], but it wasn't until later in life that he was recorded as a notaio and then posthumously as chancellor.
Francesco and Domenica Tomasini wed on July 8, 1709, at the Church of Santa Maria del Carmelo.[Mar 1709]
Francesco and his wives chose the following godparents--a "who's who" of the aristocracy of Valle Maggia--for their children:
- Battista: Don Duke Giovanni Battista Franzoni of Cevio and Donna Giovanna, wife of Don Francesco Franzoni of Cevio[Bap 1712];
- Pietro: Giacomo Pietro Pozzi, surgeon of Giumaglio, and his wife Maria Maddalena[Bap 1714], Francesco's younger sister;
- Maria: Giovanni De Bernardi and Maria Tomasini, both of Lodano[Bap 1716];
- Giuseppe (elder): Giovanni Delnotaro and Mrs. Domenica Delnotaro[Bap 1719];
- Rodolfo•: Don Carlo Rodolfo Corragioni of Broglio and Mrs. Margherita (De Bernardi) Caneverini[Bap 1720];
- Pietro Antonio: Pietro Tomasini of Lodano and Mrs. Caterina (Caneverini) Guglielmetti of Coglio[Bap 1723];
- Giuseppe (younger): Giacomo Piezzi of Giumaglio, Francesco's brother-in-law, and Mrs. Apollonia (Delnotaro) Lafranchi4 of Coglio[Bap 1726];
- Apollonia: Giovanni Caneverini and Apollonia Delnotaro[Bap 1729];
- Giovanni: Pietro Tomasini of Lodano and Giovanna Maria Caneverini of Coglio[Bap 1731];
- Francesco (II)•: Giovanni Antonio Delnotaro and Margherita De Bernardi of Lodano[Bap 1733]; and
- Giacomo: Giovanni Battista Lafranchi4 and Maria Domenica Piezzi[Bap 1744], Francesco's niece.
Francesco and Giovanna wed on January 29, 1742, at the Church of Santi Placido ed Eustachio in Someo, after having obtained dispensation for omitting the three usual banns of marriage and for "spiritual knowledge" (cognatione spiritualis) and with permission from the parishes of Menzonio and Coglio. Witnesses to their union were Giovanni Tomasini and Giuseppe Righetti, both of Someo.[Mar 1742] Their marriage was short-lived and Giovanna died not long after son Giacomo's birth.
Francesco remarried again to Giovanna Maria Pozzi, the widow of Giovanni Maria Delnotaro, on May 13, 1747, in Coglio. They were reported to be second and third cousins in two duplicate lines. Witnesses to their marriage were Giovanni Battista Lafranchi and Antonio Delnotaro.[Mar 1747] Francesco was 58 years old and Giovanna was 36.
Francesco may have died within months of his third marriage, prior to birth of granddaughter Maria Apollonia Pozzi in September 1747.[Bap 1747] He was likely 58 or 59 years old.
Giovanna Maria Pozzi lived through at least 1761 when she was twice named as a godmother to parish children at the age of 50.
