Lafranchi Family History, Part A-II

Giovanni Antonio LAFRANCHI (1661-<1693)

A21. Giovanni Antonio Lafranchi was born on April 12, 1661, in Coglio, Ticino, Switzerland, and baptized the same day in Maggia, 3 kilometers downriver. His godparents were named as Giovanni Baptista Lafranchi and Margherita Giumini.^{[Bap 1661]} He married Guglielma Cerini of the neighboring town of Giumaglio and had two sons:

Antonio and Guglielma chose the following godparents for their children:

1. Giovanni Giacomo: Giovanni Lafranchi and Mrs. Maria Sartori of Giumaglio^{[Bap 1685]}; and
2. Giacomo Pietro: Giovanni Giacomo Caneverini and Mrs. Antonia Delnotaro.^{[Bap 1693]}

The reconstructed parish records do not mention Antonio and Guglielma after the birth of son Giacomo Pietro in 1693.^{[Bap 1693]}

Giovanni Giacomo LAFRANCHI (II) (1674-<1745)

A23.Giovanni Giacomo Lafranchi (II) was born on December 22, 1674, in Coglio, Ticino, Switzerland, and baptized the same day in Maggia, 3 kilometers downriver. His godparents were named as Giovanni Giacomo Caneverini and Mrs. Apollonia (Pozzi) Delnotaro.^{[Bap 1674]} Giacomo married Giovanna De Bernardi of Lodano, a kilometer downriver, and had at least four children:

Giacomo and Giovanna chose the following godparents for their children:

1. Giacomo (III): Don Giovanni Francesco Pozzi^• and Mrs. Giacomina (Lafranchi) Delnotaro, Giacomo's younger sister^{[Bap 1708]}; and
2. Giacomina: Giovanni Lafranchi and Mrs. Domenica (Lafranchi) Guglielmetti, Giacomo's youngest sister^{[Bap 1710]};
3. Giovanna: Giuseppe Lafranchi, Giacomo's younger brother, and Giacomina Lafranchi, Giacomo's likely cousin^{[Bap 1713]}; and
4. Domenica: Giovanni Pietro Sartori (likely Giacomo Pietro Sartori, daughter Giacomina's future husband) and Giacomina Lafranchi, Giacomo's niece.^{[Bap 1726]}

Giacomo and brother Martino³ were recorded as witnesses in the reconstruction of parish records following the church fire of 1745 for the Lafranchi, Delnotaro, and Guglielmetti families.

Giuseppe LAFRANCHI^Δ (1677-<1742)

A24. Giuseppe Lafranchi^Δ was born on December 16, 1677, in Coglio, Ticino, Switzerland, and baptized the same day in Maggia, 3 kilometers downriver. His godparents were named as Giacomo Pietro Cerini, the father of his future sister-in-law, Guglielma (Cerini) Lafranchi, and Guglielma Guglielmetti.^{[Bap 1677]} Giuseppe married Domenica Delnotaro^• and had as may as seven children:

Giuseppe and Domenica chose the following godparents for their children:

1. Giacomina: Giovanni Battista Delnotaro and Mrs. Domenica (Lafranchi) Guglielmetti, Giuseppe's youngest sister^{[Bap 1712]};
2. Giacomo (elder): Don Giovanni Francesco Pozzi^• and Mrs. Giacomina (Lafranchi) Delnotaro, Giuseppe's younger sister^{[Bap 1715B]};
3. Giacomo (younger): Giovanni Delnotaro, Giuseppe's brother-in-law (Giacomina's husband), and Maria Caneverini^{[Bap 1718]};
4. Margherita: Giacomo Tomaso Pozzi of Giumaglio and Mrs. Giovanna (Delnotaro) Lafranchi, Giuseppe's sister-in-law (Martino's³ wife)^{[Bap 1721]};
5. Giuseppe Antonio: Martino Lafranchi³, Giuseppe's younger brother, and Mrs. Domenica Delnotaro^{[Bap 1724]};

7. Giuseppe Maria: Giovanni Caneverini and Mrs. Catterina Lafranchi, Domenica's likely elder sister and wife of Giuseppe's cousin Giovanni Giacomo Lafranchi.^{[Bap 1731]}

Giuseppe was in turn named as godfather to Giovanni Maria Lafranchi^{[Bap 1713]}; and Domenica was named as godmother to Martino Lafranchi (Jr.)^{[Bap 1715A]}, Giuseppe's nephew, and Giovanni Giacomo Lafranchi (Jr.).^{[Bap 1722]}

Giuseppe Lafranchi died sometime between 1732^{[Bap 1732]} and 1742^{[Bap 1742]}, which would have put him in his late 50s or early 60.

Domenica was last recorded as a witness in the reconstruction of parish records following the church fire of 1745 for the Delnotaro family. As such, she was one of only two women to recorded as witnesses in the reconstruction.

Giacomina (LAFRANCHI) DEL NOTARO (1684->1723)

A25. Giacomina Lafranchi was born on October 20, 1684, in Coglio, Ticino, Switzerland, and baptized the same day in the neighboring parish of Giumaglio. Her godparents were named as Giovanni Baptista Delnotaro and Maria Delnotaro.^{[Bap 1684]} Giacomina married Giovanni Delnotaro on June 26, 1713, at the Church of Santa Maria del Carmelo in Coglio^{[Mar 1713]} and had three children:

Giacomina and Giovanni chose the following godparents for their children:

1. Apollonia: Don Giovanni Francesco Pozzi^• and Mrs. Domenica Delnotaro, Giovanni's younger sister^{[Bap 1713]};
2. Battista: Giovanni Battista Delnotaro and Mrs. Domenica (Tomasini) Pozzi^{[Bap 1715B]}; and
3. Giacomina: Pietro Antonio Maria Tomasini of Lodano and Apollonia Delnotaro^{[Bap 1722]}, future wife of Giacomina's younger brother, Martino³.

Giacomina was in kind named as godmother to Maria Catterina Lafranchi^{[Bap 1702]}; nephew Giovanni Giacomo Lafranchi (III)^{[Bap 1708]}; nephew Giovanni Giacomo Lafranchi^{[Bap 1711]}; Apollonia Delnotaro^{[Bap 1712]}, Giovanni's niece; Antonio Maria Delnotaro^{[Bap 1715]}, Giovanni's nephew; nephew Giovanni Giacomo Lafranchi^{[Bap 1715C]}; niece Giacomina Guglielmetti^{4 [Bap 1717]}; and Giovanni Giacomo Caneverini.^{[Bap 1723]} Giovanni was likewise named godfather to Giacomina's nephews Giovanni Giacomo Lafranchi^{[Bap 1718]} and Giovanni Guglielmetti.^{[Bap 1719]}

Giovanni Delnotaro died between 1722^{[Bap 1722]} and 1723^{[Bap 1723]}. He was about 41 years old.

Martino LAFRANCHI (Sr.)³ (1685-<1747)

A26. Martino Lafranchi (Sr.)³ was born and baptized on December 28, 1685, in Coglio, Ticino, Switzerland. His godparents were named as Giovanni Delnotaro and Mrs. Antonio Delnotaro.^{[Bap 1685]} Martino first married Giovanna Delnotaro and had seven children. Afterward he married Apollonia Delnotaro⁴, who may have been Giovanna's younger half-sister and was 17 years younger than Martino, on February 4, 1727, at the Church of Santa Maria del Carmelo in Coglio^{[Mar 1727]} They and had five more children together. All total, Martino fathered 12 children but only one, Battista⁴, apparently lived to marry and have children in Coglio:

Martino and his wives chose the following godparents for their children:

1. Giacomo: Giovanni Pietro Sartori (likely Giacomo Pietro Sartori, Martino's niece's husband) and Mrs. Giacomina (Lafranchi) Delnotaro, Martino's elder sister^{[Bap 1711]};
2. Antonio (elder): Giovanni Battista Delnotaro and his wife Domenica^{[Bap 1714]};
3. Martino (Jr.): Giovanni Lafranchi and Mrs. Domenica (Delnotaro) Lafranchi, wife of Martino's elder brother Giuseppe^{[Bap 1715]};
4. Maria: Giovanni Giacomo Caneverini and Mrs. Domenica (Tomasini) Pozzi^{[Bap 1716]};
5. Giovanni: Giovanni Antonio Lafranchi and Catterina Delnotaro^{[Bap 1718]};
6. Giacomina (elder): Giovanni Battista Delnotaro and Domenica Guglielmetti^{[Bap 1721B]};

11. Giacomina (younger): Giuseppe Maria Pozzi and Domenica Pozzi.^{[Bap 1739]}

Martino was named in kind as godfather to nephew Giuseppe Antonio Maria Lafranchi.^{[Bap 1724B]} Giovanna was also named as godmother to Martino's niece Maria Margherita Lafranchi.^{[Bap 1721A]}

Apollonia was named as godmother to Giuseppe Maria Delnotaro^{[Bap 1732B]} and cousin Giuseppe Maria Lafranchi^•.^{[Bap 1747]}

Martino and elder brother Giacomo were recorded as witnesses in the reconstruction of parish records following the church fire of 1745 for the Lafranchi, Delnotaro, and Guglielmetti families.

Martino Lafranchi died sometime between 1745 and 1747, when his late wife Apollonia was named as godmother to Martino's grandnephew Giuseppe Maria Lafranchi.^{[Bap 1747]}

Domenica (LAFRANCHI) GUGLIELMETTI³ (1688->1719)

A27. Domenica Lafranchi³ was born and baptized on January 4, 1688, in Coglio, Ticino, Switzerland. Her godparents were named as Giovanni Giacomo Lafranchi, supposedly her elder brother, and Mrs. Apollonia (Pozzi) Delnotaro.^{[Bap 1688]} Domenica married Giovanni Pietro Guglielmetti in January 1714 in Coglio. They had two children together:

Domenica and Pietro chose the following godparents for their children:

1. Giacomina: Don Giovanni Francesco Pozzi^• and Mrs. Giacomina (Lafranchi) Delnotaro, Domenica's elder sister; and
2. Giovanni: Giovanni Delnotaro, Domenica's brother-in-law, and the widow Mrs. Maria Delnotaro^{[Bap 1719]}, possibly Pietro's sister.

Giovanni Pietro Guglielmetti died sometime between 1729 and 1733, the birth of his first grandchild.^{[Bap 1733]} He was probably in his early 60s.
