Paul PAROLI (1896-1984)Blue Star

Paul PAROLI 131. Paul Paroli was born February 7, 1896, in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California.

Paul worked on his father's farm when the United States entered World War I.[Draft 1918] He enlisted as a Private on July 24, 1918, and was assigned to Company I of the 12th Infantry Regiment.[Vet] The 12th Infantry was assigned to the 8th Division at Camp Fremont at Menlo Park, south of San Francisco in San Mateo County, California, where his cousin Tony Malugani was also serving with the 8th Division. The 12th Infantry was sent east to Camp Mills, near Hempstead on Long Island, New York, in October to await embarkation to Europe, but was quarantined there because of Spanish influenza. The 12th Infantry therefore did not embark with the rest of the 8th Division to Europe.

Paul continued to live with his parents at the family ranch at 2733 Calistoga Road in the hills above Santa Rosa. His father died in 1940 and his mother in 1949, after which Paul assumed the ranch.[Draft 1942, Cen 1950]

Paul Paroli died in Santa Rosa on January 14, 1984, at the age of 87. Paul was described as 5' 11" tall, 150 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair, and light brown complexion.[Draft 1942]

Domenica (PAROLI) MAGATELLI (1897-1917)

132. Domenica Paroli was born on December 30, 1897, in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California. She and Domenico Magatelli married on January 2, 1916, in Santa Rosa. They had one son before their tragic deaths:

Malugani-Magatelli Connections
Dominica's husband, Domenico Magatelli, was a younger brother of Benjamin "Tony" Magatelli who married Serena Malugani, Dominica's cousin on her mother's side, hence two Magatelli brothers married two Malugani cousins.

Domenico Magatelli was from Tovo di Sant'Agata, Sondrio, Lombardia, Italy. He emigrated, departing from Le Havre, France, aboard the La Gascogne and arrived at Ellis Island on March 14, 1911. Upon arrival he stated he was to join his sister Bettina in Fort Bragg, Mendocino County, California, by way of San Francisco. His elder brother Tony had immigrated seven years earlier, his half-brother Frank Rochetti afterward in 1913, and their widowed mother after that in 1931.

Domenica and Domenico received their marriage license on December 31, 1915, and were married in Santa Rosa by Father J. M. Cassin on January 2, 1916.[Mar 1916]

The Magatellis lived along Alpine Road in the hills above Rincon Valley where Domenico farmed.[Draft 1917]

In December 1917, Domenico was loading explosives (either black powder or dynamite) on to a wagon when it ignited, perhaps by a lit cigar that Domenico discarded. Domenico escaped with his life but Domenica was thrown from the wagon and died a few days later on December 28. She was only 19 years old. Their son Albert was just months old.

Domenico Magatelli tragically took his life four months later on April 19 at Domenica's grave. He reportedly was found by his half-brother Frank Rochetti.

Their infant son Albert was adopted by Domenica's parents and raised as a Paroli.

Charles Frank Paroli died in Santa Rosa on June 1981 at the age of 80.
