Domenica (TOGNINI) PIEZZI2 (~1661-1725)

May 201411. Domenica Tognini/Coirata2 was born between 1658 and 1661, probably in Someo, Ticino, Switzerland. She married Giacomo Piezzi2, the father of five children, who was widowed just one month prior to their marriage in 1685. She was around 23 years old and he about 39. They had seven children together in Giumaglio:

111. Domenico Piezzi 8 Jan 1688 2 Oct 1694 (6)
112. Giacomina Piezzi3 (1688-1689) 30 Jan 1743 (55)
113. Giacomo Piezzi (II) 12 Jul 1691 25 Feb 1764 (72)
114. Giovanna Piezzi 6 Jul 1694 (1718-1720) (25)
115. Anna Maria Piezzi 25 Jul 1698 5 Nov 1742 (44)
116. Domenico Piezzi 12 Mar 1701 18 Nov 1756 (55)
117. Domenica Piezzi 15 Mar 1704 13 Apr 1764 (60)

Giacomo's first wife, Maria (Pedrotti) Piezzi, died on February 6, 1685, at the family home in Giumaglio. She was reported to be "about 30 years" old and was buried the following day in the cemetery next to the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.[Dth 1685]

Domenica and Giacomo marrried a month after Maria's death on March 6, 1685, in the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, Giumaglio. This followed the three traditional declarations, which were made in both the parishes of Giumaglio and Someo on February 24 and 25, and March 4. Witnesses to their union were Giovanni Pozzi, Giacomo Mirenini, and Giacomo Sartori, all of Giumaglio. Also married on the same day, and with the same dates of declarations beforehand, were Giovanni Giacomo Gaspari (also a widower) and Giovanna Guglielmetti.[Mar 1685]

Domenica and Giacomo are first found as a family in the parish census of 1692 with Maddalena and Pietro noted as Giacomo's children, indicating they were from his previous marriage. Domenico (the elder), Carlo, Giacomina, and Giacomo were apparently added later as a group and simply named as "children," denoting they were the children of both Giacomo and Domenica.[Cen 1692] However, Carlo Antonio was later grouped with Maddalena and Pieto Paulo as "children only of Giacomo" and Giacomina and the younger children as "children of both," which is born out by baptism records, with the notable exception of Domenico, who was born to Domenica but 10 years after that indicated in the 1692 parish census.[Bap 1688, Cen 1692-1702]

Domenica and Giacomo chose the following godparents for their children:

  1. Domenico (elder): Battista Giumini and Domenica Bonetti (likely the wife of Giovanni Pedrotti)[Bap 1688];
  2. Giacomina2: no baptism record found in Giumaglio;
  3. Giacomo (II): Pietro Bonetti and Mrs. Maddalena (Ianzi) Giumini[Bap 1691];
  4. Giovanna: Giacomo Mirenini and Maria Apollonia Giumini, the sister-in-law of Maddalena (Ianzi) Giumini and perhaps Giacomo's niece[Bap 1694];
  5. Anna Maria: Giovanni Giacomo Fedele Caneverini of Coglio and Maria Pozzi[Bap 1698];
  6. Domenico (younger): Carlo Tognini of Someo, Domenica's likely brother, and Mrs. Giacomina Tognini of Someo, the wife of Domenico Tognini, who was also Domenica's likely brother[Bap 1701]; and
  7. Domenica: Cristiano Sartori and Domenica Marchese.[Bap 1704]

Giacomo's six-year-old son Domenico died on October 2, 1694, at the family home in Giumaglio. He was buried at the cemetery of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.[Dth 1694]

By 1698, Giacomo's elder children Maddalena, Pietro Paolo, and Carlo Antonio were all annotated as "absent," while teenaged Giacomina and Giacomo remained and Giovanna and Anna Maria were added.[Cen 1698] Maddalena returned by 1702, while Pietro Paulo and Carlo Antonio remained "absent," and the younger Domenico was added.[Cen 1702,1703]

Giacomo Piezzi died on August 18, 1724, at the family home in Giumaglio. He was buried the following day in the cemetery of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. He was reportedly "about 82 years" old[Dth 1724] but may have been about 79 years old based on ages recorded earlier.

Domenica (Tognini/Coirata) Piezzi died 9 months later about June 6, 1725, at her home in Giumaglio. She was buried the following day in the cemetery next to the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.[Dth 1725] Domenica was in her early 60s.

121. Maria Margherita Muscio (<1713) (>1726) (>13)

Witnesses to the marriage of Giovanna and Carlo Antonio were Antonio Andreina (Jr.) and Giovanni Domenico Jorio.[Mar 1694]

Carlo Antonio Muscio died sometime before his daughter's marriage in 1726.[Mar 1726]

Giovanni TOGNINI (~1676-1741)

March 201914. Giovanni Tognini was born about 1676, probably in Someo, Ticino, Switzerland. He first married Giovanna Antognazzi, daughter of the late Giuseppe, on January 7, 1697, in Someo. She apparently died before 1704 and Giovanni remarried on what would have been their seventh wedding anniversary to his third cousin Giacoma Tognini, daughter of the late Bernardo, on January 7, 1704, in Someo.

Witnesses to Giovanni and Giovanna's marriage were brothers Andrea and Giovanni Antonio Jorio.[Mar 1697]

Giovanna Antognazzi likely died before 1704, before available death records.

Witnesses to Giovanni and Giacoma's marriage were his brother Carlo Tognini and Matteo Antognazzi[Mar 1704], the likely brother of Giovanna.

Giovanni tognini died in his home in Someo on December 20, 1741, and was buried the following day in the parish cemetery. He was reported to be "about 65 years" old.[Dth 1741]

Domenico and Giacomina wed on March 24, 1696, at the parish church in in Someo. Before their marriage they obtained dispensation for the impediment of the fourth degree of consanguinity in triplicate stocks (i.e., third cousins, however, the exact connections of their relationship is not yet known). Witnesses to their union were Giovanni Pietro Pezzoni and Giovanni Giacomo Muscio.[Mar 1696]

Domenico served as witness to the marriage of Giacomo Antonio Jorio and Maria Maddalena Camani.[Mar 1701]

Domenico Tognini (Jr.) died on December 28, 1736, at his home in Someo, and was buried that evening in the parish cemetery. He was "about 68 years" old.[Dth 1736]

The following May, seventh grandchild Anna Maria Perinoni was born and Domenico was first recorded as deceased.[Bap 1737] This is the current basis for connecting him and his daughter Maria.

Giacomina (Guerra) Tognini died on April 18, 1738, at the age of "about 72 years". She was buried the same evening in the parish cemetery.[Dth 1738]

December 201815. Carlo Tognini was born before 1680, probably in Someo, Ticino, Switzerland. He may have been the "Carolus Coirata" who was born on September 15, 1672, and baptized in Giumaglio. His parents were Domenico Coirata and Benevenuta Poma of Someo, and his godparents were Alessandro Muscio and Mrs. Caterina (Perinoni) Pozzi.[Bap 1672] Giovanni married his third cousin Elena Jorio, daughter of the late Giovanni, on April 15, 1700, in Someo.
